Performing in the student recital - Previously, I put on 2 recitals a year from 1996 - 2017 at Clinton Community College, fall & spring semester. I also put on a more casual summer mini-recital at BeauSoleil studio as well as potluck dance parties (haflas) at my home studio.
* I retired May 2017 after 21 years teaching Middle East Dance at Clinton Community College - I may put on more shows in the future in the theater or lounge, but my:
"Last" RECITAL was: SAT MAY 20 2017 2ND FLOOR LOBBY /LOUNGE IN HISTORIC MAIN BUILDING - A COZY & LOVELY VENUE! We had a wonderful time.
I still put on student "Mini Recitals" in dance studio
@ BEAUSOLEIL TANNING (formerly PREMIER STUDIO) 34 SKYWAY PLAZA PLATTSBURGH NY
A recital gives students the opportunity to:
- show what they have learned
- dress up in fun costumes
- perform in a safe and friendly environment
- share fun & camaraderie with others
At a recital - If you are only in one dance, or have a long time between, you may change into street clothes (but must change back to costume for curtain call), or wear a cover-up & watch show in audience. You can sit with your family & friends if you wish.
Please be discreet entering and exiting and never do so during a performance.
You must be ready in the wings at the dance right before you. There are lists posted with dance order.
If you have any ? feel free to email or text / call me 572-9153.
Looking forward to seeing everyone & having a great time!!
The audience is comprised mainly of family and friends happy to encourage our creativity & effort. Guest artists may be professionals with many years of experience, as well as students of other teachers invited to perform.
The recital consists of performances by my students, guest artists, Rhythms of deNile percussion group,
and my troupe The Masouda Dance Ensemble.
* Historical note: Before the theater was built, I used to hold my CCC recitals in the lobby of the main building with 100 or so chairs set up in a horseshoe shape. It is one of those large classically elegant type lobbies with a huge fireplace and balcony overlooking Lake Champlain. That was a lot of fun too and had a nice connection with the audience. I put on my first student recital there in 1996. When the Stafford Theater was built in 1999, I held recitals there until 2016 Fall show. At that time, a schedule mishap led us back to the lobby for our show - It was delightful! Since then, I have put on our recitals in the lounge/lobby...so relaxed and warm!
Costumes are simple & I have some to loan. You usually need to get your own top. I have some for sale, you can order on line, or if you sew, you can make your own. Will direct you for each dance.
If you are performing for the first time and are nervous, there are lots of good tips to help quell nerves:
-Practice at home with your notes & music; the more familiar you are with your dance, the more relaxed you will feel while dancing
-Use deep breathing and relaxation techniques
-Remember that if you make a mistake, keep smiling and moving with the music; chances are no one will notice if you keep going / Some beautiful dance moves have been created from "mistakes"!
-Practice with expression!! You do not need to smile every minute, but you do need to try and show some facial expression. Make expression part of your dance
The audience wants to see that you are having a good time!!
